The Circle of Life: Story of Poppy Flower Stackable Rings

Hi everyone. I am a jewelry designer specializing in unique handmade jewelry made out of Sterling silver, gold and gemstones. In addition to more authentic and modern designs I am also known for my antique themed jewelry handmade with top notch craftsmanship matching museum quality reproductions. I sell my jewelry to those who seek something out of the ordinary.

The stackable set of 4 Poppy Flower Rings, which signify the Circle of Life, are handmade by me using wax carving technique. This basically involved meticulously sculpting these beautiful flowers out of carving wax using a combination of sharp chisels and some rotary tools. Once you have the vision it is amazing to watch it come to life. This is perhaps the most satisfying part of job after seeing the customers happy. Of course for the Poppy Flower Rings I have created 4 different wax models each representing a different stage of a poppy flowers life.

Once that part was over, these wax models were used to create crude rings with lost wax casting. After I receive the crude rings from the casting workshop, I clean them up, oxidize parts of them with sulfur to create dimension and contrast in the design. This is followed by a final polishing process so that they are all nice, sparkly and neat! These rings are available in Sterling silver and jewelry grade bronze. I have some pictures below for you to check. Which do you like better, silver or bronze?

Poppy Flower Blossom

Poppy flowers are very common in nature all around the world and I simply love them. During spring they cover large fields with a joyous red in the country side. Poppy flowers have a lot of symbolism associated with them. Their beauty and lore behind them were the inspiration for my ring design.

Since the ancient times poppy flowers have been symbol of sleep and peace. The reason for that association is perhaps due to the fact that one species of poppy is the source of opium. This is the crude drug which may further refined to morphine for medicinal purposes and other more creative uses. Ancients knew the ways of Mother Nature and possessed this information as well as many other secrets.

Poppy is the symbol of sleep mainly because of opium which is a strong sedative and a pain killer. Poppy flowers are also associated with death due to their rich red color, and they would be offered to the dead by the Greeks and the Romans. Poppy flower figures are commonly seen in tombstones of the ancients, who are experiencing eternal sleep.

Poppies are also symbols of Remembrance Day dedicated to soldiers who died during World War 1 in fields covered by poppies. During the ceremonies it is common to wear poppy flowers and emblems.

For me these rings are special because it is such a joy it is to cherish different stages of our life. From the day that we are born to when we blossom then gracefully mature there is so much to experience and so many to love. The Poppy Flower rings show this beautiful flower at different stages of its life and remind us of our lifes, memories and the bright future that we all work for. Stackable, truly creative and extraordinary!

May your jewelry inspire you. Until next time.
